Abandoned House

Abandoned House

On still called The King's Road,

next to the church, across from the library,

with weeds, over grown bushes and

some feral cats, sits an old derelict house.

When did people leave,

why was the place forsaken,

how many generations lived here?

With no one to ask, I freely invent

a back story. Could there have been

a chicken coop and kitchen garden?

Maybe children read their primers

by the light of candles or the fire.

Mother cooked on a wood fired, black

stove. Perhaps father bought a model T

Ford to get to work. A young man may

have gone off to war, did he come back?

Possibly I don't want to know the real

history of the house, I want to create its past.
