Ode to the Felicitous Muck
I put leafy pieces and veggie bits
in the pot and by the sink it sits.
When full, into the compost pail I throw
to become good garden soil, I know.
Sometimes I’m surprised all the same,
the muck grows plants with no name.
This time though surprise turns to glee,
due to what the compost has given to me.
The humus is nurturing a different vine,
it’s a tomato plant, it’s growing so fine.
Soon I’ll have some tomatoes to eat,
green or red, they’ll be hard to beat.
