its use was a skill drivers had

I learned it early as a lad.

slang word used in the ‘hood

with refined folk it isn’t good.

part of a common pastime 

have four then bet a dime.

around a room on the wall

they are even in the hall.

they’re used in a kid’s game,

among players there’s fame.

ships at sea fly them high

sometimes, beware, it’s a lie.

it’s every Tom, Dick and Harry

but never Pete, Jim or Barry.
