riddle poem
its use was a skill drivers had
I learned it early as a lad.
slang word used in the ‘hood
with refined folk it isn’t good.
part of a common pastime
have four then bet a dime.
around a room on the wall
they are even in the hall.
they’re used in a kid’s game,
among players there’s fame.
ships at sea fly them high
sometimes, beware, it’s a lie.
it’s every Tom, Dick and Harry
but never Pete, Jim or Barry.
know the answer you may
speak it, now you can say.
You may have guessed the answer, but if you haven't click comments and you will find my answer.
The idea for this poem came from a poem presented by one of the Quahog Poets.
