Thanksgiving
Comes
to the door a guest,
but
I think he's not the best
on
his face not even a smile
he
seems quite full of bile.
Who
invited this sullen guy
I
don’t like him, it’s not a lie
I
put on a cheerful face
my
words with care I pace.
Is
this house one four nine?
says
he with deep gruff whine
oh
dear, could it really be,
relieved
I speak, it’s one four three!

Prayers
for the Departing
They came to visit,
They came to visit,
they
drove for hours,
while mom was ready
to pass over, with no mind,
no senses, no sense.
They came to visit,
while mom was ready
to pass over, with no mind,
no senses, no sense.
They came to visit,
I
knew them
from
a different
place and time.
They came with their little known religion
found in dusty textbooks.
They came to visit
not to convert, not to explain,
they came only to visit mom,
to perform the rite for the dying.
They came to visit,
They came with their little known religion
found in dusty textbooks.
They came to visit
not to convert, not to explain,
they came only to visit mom,
to perform the rite for the dying.
They came to visit,
I
felt grateful for the blessing.
Like
mythical angels
they left.
they left.
Another type of visitor to the back yard.
