The container garden
The mailman brought them last week.
I'd ordered on-line, parsley and basil
seeds,
readied the pots on the back deck,
and now wait to be sure there'll be no
frost.
Parsley is slow to sprout and lasts
long
into the fall, while basil comes up
quickly,
but dies off with a hint of cold.
I'll tend and harvest my herbs
all summer long. If high winds
threaten, the pots will be moved.
When a bit more is wanted in soup
or salad, herbs will add zip.
As fall comes only parsley will last
while basil's leaves have shriveled.
Some people start early like basil
some last long like parsley.
You are very industrious about your container gardens. I can just smell the herbs as you bake them into your famous breads or add them to your pasta sauces. Delightful and so good for health. No wonder that you take such satisfaction in your container gardens.
