March

March

Longer days, shorter nights.
it’s soon time to fly our kites.
Bits of green among the brown
oak leaves that of late fell down.
Crocuses flowering near the door,
before long we will have lots more.
Daylily blades from the ground peek
they’ll be a foot high in a week.
Forget the north winds with snows
and so many other winter woes.
Spring has come in its full glory
our life now is a different story.

"flowering near the door"

March #2

The teenagers step off the yellow bus
carrying their coats as they walk home
with faraway looks in their eyes.

Bikes in the sheds have been disentangled,
the tires filled, the chains oiled
and the seats wiped clean.  Now like a
parody of a rodeo,  kids do tricks while
grown-ups try to look calm hoping no one
will need to call nine-one-one.

With longer days folks come out
after supper.  Small groups walk up
the street or down by the water,
while children play hide ‘n seek.

Life changes as it does every year,
as it does with every change of season.
