Mid-February
The veneer of snow glistens in the morning.
Now the sun, higher in the sky, reflects.
Sun glasses shield the east bound driver.
Last night’s freeze made slicks of ice.
Wise drivers go slow and stay aware.
Yesterday’s snow clings to the bare branches
and a warming sun triggers falling clumps.
Boreas, god of the north, knows, as do we,
this is a last wheeze of winter.
February
The month starts with Groundhog day
see it’s shadow, this rodent may.
Lincoln’s birthday then we see
on day twelve, born was he.
A red heart day follows soon
Valentines do make some swoon.
Susan Anthony’s day have we
for her, fairness for all, was key.
Washington’s day soon does fall
in our history he stands tall.
Leap Day comes every fourth year,
after that March and spring are here.
