Boston Patriots Day 2013
twenty six miles away
the throngs start the race.
the quickest soon finish,
while amateurs steadily pull in
past the library at Copley Square.
then
on Boylston Street
a bomb.
happy cheering ends,
howls of pain and anguish begin,
the unhurt rush to help.
now our world is altered.
a punctured tire gets patched
a torn sock gets darned
a cracked keepsake gets glued
cured, yet patched, darned or glued.
Boston will be put right,
Boston will heal, but
our universe has been changed
it can’t be the same.
