The Storms of March 2018
We New Englanders have seen blizzards.
The one of 1978 is still talked about,
and that of 1888 is known.
Maybe 2018 will be remembered.
Storm after storm hit us hard
late in the season, snow and wind
beyond the usual.
On the eighteenth at 9:47am,
I know because the old fashion
analog clock stops, I lose electricity.
Bundle up and try to stay warm,
make a cold lunch and decide whether
to call the Emergency Operating Center.
Out the window the snow is coming
sideways and the trees are struggling
to stay upright. The wind howls.
The outside thermometer reads 32
degrees.
at least its not in the teens. A call
come in,
I'm told the wires are down
on John Parker Road. Who knows when
they can be fixed.
After eight hours the power is
restored.
Now to do all the things a person does
when
the power is back. Check the fridge,
have a bite to eat, fix the clocks,
check the email,
restart the cable TV and so on and so
on.
But first
I have a cup of tea.
