the past has passed

This is another remembrance
of things past poems

the past has passed

there are many things we saw before
our world changed and we see no more.

from down the street came a vile smell
it was the swill truck, it stunk like hell.
to the sump in the yard every week
the garbage man, the slop he did seek.

in winter the coal truck came
each time it was much the same
a long chute put to the cellar bin,
coal sent down with quite a din.

now and then were heard noisy shouts
it’s a junk man’s truck, we had no doubts.
he wanted paper, rags, bottles and tin
and for these a coin or two we’d win.

these are some things of the past
our world for certain changes fast.
