solstice
long, long is this cold night-
for our forebears, a time of fright
to offset this strange day, they made
a festival to pray or they played.
come June a day of long sun
a time of dreams and of fun
often called midsummer,
for Shakespeare, not a bummer.
we face an ebb and flow
of light and warmth, we know.
come days alike in dark and bright
we still for sure find delight.
