Woodneck Beach

Woodneck Beach

before seeing the ocean
I sense the unique pure
scent of  salt,  hear
 the undulating roar
of the arriving tide,
and see how the dazzling
winter sun creates white
silk gauze scraps
on the dark blue surf.

there rests a huge boulder,
there for eons, from time
before memory,  facing
the daily tides, millennia
after millennia,
and yet it stays.

on the rock rests a gull,
born this past spring.
birds have sat on this rock
facing the daily tides
for millennia as well,
it also stays.
