picking blueberries
on a sweltering July day
a blue cloudless sky
I go to pick berries
at Coonamessett farm
with a guest pass
from Debby, we check in
at the general store and
get green wrist band
to the pail shed
get a white plastic pail
to hold the bounty, walk
up the hill to find the patch
past the turkeys, chickens,
flowers and alpacas
in among the tall blueberry
greenery, we walk the rows
gathering only the ripe berries
we bring gathered crop
to the check out counter,
pay for what was gathered
such a bounty
some to eat now
some to freeze
all scrumptious
