In the Yard

In the Yard

At the feeder
the Cardinal in frenzy eats,
while the mate guards
in the tree;
then off they fly
to the nest.

Below
up push
green day lily leaves
struggling to claim
a share of the sun.

Above
the brown,
almost red tinge,
envelops the oak tree
to open a new year.

Still,
on the ground
the noble broken branches,
dry leaves and acorns.
