Another Me

Another Me

I'd be in the western hills
overlooking the Hoosatonic
with a field of corn and potatoes
and squash and beans
and tomatoes,
with a bee hive and
a garden of thyme and sage
not far from
the small cabin.

There'd be apple trees
and maybe a grape vine,
a few chickens
and a pet rabbit.

All day
I'd read, write,
make things, look for
wild flowers and spider webs.

I'd leave salt
for deer and
seeds for Chickadees
and Mourning Doves.

day
after
day
after
day
after
day.

  1. These last three poems are magnificent! I see such a progression in your work, Jack. You draw the reader in with your mastery of the words -- clear, concise, compact. Each time I read a new poem, I am struck by the variety of subjects and richness of thought.
