Never is not enough, Twice is too often

Never is not enough, twice is too often

The Pantraco Bus from central Luzon to
the mountain city of Baguio. Five hours later,
overnight in a rustic cabin with fireplace,
electric range, hot shower and comfortable beds.

In the morning taxi to the bus station. Climb
aboard a rickety bus. A bus crowded with
mountain people with their small livestock
with their packs of city products with
their bearing of endurance for the eight hours trip.

The road into the high mountains winds between
sheared wall cliffs and long drops into the valley
below. Stops at well thought out intervals
to meet natures variety of needs, including
a stop at an almost restaurant.

Finally in the town of Bontoc to the ten room
Pines Hotel. During the day the generator
pumps the water and at dusk powers
the one bulb in each room until ten o’clock, with
a thin mat and chair, and no door lock.
Hot water on odd numbered days for showers.

Enchanting days are spent visiting
terraced mountains, skilled artful weavers
and listening to songs and lore. Then back
to the bus for the trip back. The same
as the trip up, but in reverse order.

I did it, I’m glad I did
I didn’t do it twice,
I‘m glad I didn‘t..
