At the Side of the Road
On a pile of garden waste
maybe left by someone,
who didn't have
a dump sticker,
a wilted clump of day lilies.
Take it home,
let's see if
it likes that patch
by the driveway.
That was years,
years ago.
Now,
the green blades grow high
the patch spreads wide
the orange blooms show bright.
Children of the patch grow,
live in other gardens,
from someone's
garden waste.

How welcome to see day lilies as I gaze out at the frozen, barren flower beds! Beautifully composed poem, Jack. Recycling life and beauty!
